Dangerous Holiday Items for Pets

PLEASE remember that tinsel and curling ribbon are very dangerous to pets! It will go through their digestive tract and knot around until it kills them (the same reason you should never let a pet play with yarn). Many holiday plants are toxic, as well: Poinsettia can cause vomiting, mistletoe and holly are mildly-to-severely toxic, bulbs from the Lily, Daffodil, and Amaryllis families are deadly and can cause kidney failure among other lethal conditions, and Christmas tree needles can cause vomiting and can puncture the tract walls - which can lead to death. Christmas lights and anything that requires electric chord are enticing for animals, particularly cats, to chew on, causing electrocution. CHOCOLATE, especially dark chocolate, is deadly. Keep an eye on pets and pick up after yourself the same as you would if you had a crawling baby or toddler.http://vetmedicine.about.com/od/toxicology/qt/toxicplants.htm
