John Carter

I finally got to see John Carter yesterday (very good movie, by the way). I was curious while watching because I've heard similar remarks about our planet and solar system that were being discussed in the movie, so I looked it up. Apparently, a majority of the alien conspiracy theories we have today are directly from this work of fiction written by Edgar Rice Burroughs (Tarzan) in 1912. I believe in life on other planets, other galaxies like our own, the possibility of just about everything found in so-called "science fiction," but honestly, it's somewhat disappointing to find out so many cool theories were stolen from the pages of what would later become a comic book and cult following. I know a lot of science fiction has become science fact, but because we made it so. I guess one theory is as good as any other until one is proven and the other is disproven. Still .... a comic book?
